Celebration of Ukraine’s Independence Day
24 August 2025 20:00

The Embassy of Ukraine in Norway took part in celebration of Ukraine’s Independence Day in Oslo.

Counsellor of the Embassy Ihor Holovchenko emphasized in his speech that since restoration of its independence 34 years ago, Ukraine has spent a third of that time, 11 years, resisting Russian aggression. He recalled the enormous price the Ukrainian people are paying for their aspiration to remain independent from Russia, which has been killing Ukrainians and destroying Ukraine for centuries.

The Ukrainian diplomat thanked the government, political parties, and citizens of Norway for their support, which has grown significantly in 2025. He expressed confidence that Norway’s unity on the issue of assistance to Ukraine will continue after the parliamentary elections on 8 September, regardless of their results.

Political unity on the issue of Ukraine was demonstrated by the leaders and representatives of all nine parliamentary parties in Norway who spoke at the demonstration, including Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide and Chair of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Ine Eriksen Søreide.

The celebrations also included a festive procession in Ukrainian embroidered shirts to the Royal Palace of Norway, with participants carrying Ukrainian flags and other symbols.
