The Nordic postal and logistics group "Posten" are shipping humanitarian aid and gifts to Ukraine
30 December 2022 12:28

Just over three weeks ago, Posten called on everyone to contribute a Christmas present to Ukraine. The response has been great. In total, packages equivalent to 40 tonnes have been sent in a few weeks.

- It is fantastic to see all the joy of giving from people in Norway to Ukrainians living in a war-torn country. We are sure that the gifts will benefit those who receive the gifts in Ukraine. Therefore I want to say; Thank you very much, everyone, for your contribution, says executive director Hans-Øyvind Ryen at Posten Norge.

In total, around 170 tones of parcels have been sent from Norway to Ukraine since Posten started offering free parcel shipments in April. On average, one lorry a week has transported parcels, but this week and next week three full lorries are driving down to take away the large quantities of parcels that have come from generous Norwegians recently.

- I would like to express a big thank you to Posten and Bring for their support. The cooperation has been fantastic and has given us the opportunity to help many Ukrainians. Their flexibility and strong willingness to help, especially during the first meetings between the embassy and the Post, make a real difference that has so far resulted in 170 tons of humanitarian aid arriving in Ukraine. Together we are stronger, says Dr. Lilia Honcharevych, Ukraine's ambassador to Norway.

Private individuals, sports teams, associations and charitable organizations have handed in packages that Posten has transported free of charge to Ukraine in recent weeks. On Friday 9 December, the last lorry from Posten and Bring's logistics center in Oslo left for Poland, before the consignments are taken over by the Ukrainian postal service Ukrpostha, which distributes further into Ukraine.

The packages that were sent this week were the last deadline to get the packages for the Christmas holiday.

FACTS:

  • In the run-up to Christmas (since 26 November), 40 tones of parcels have been sent from Norway to the war-ravaged country, via Poland.
  • This is a collaboration between Posten Norge AS, the Ukrainian embassy in Norway and the Ukrainian postal service Ukrpostha. Posten delivers the parcels in Poland on the border with Ukraine, before Ukrpostha takes over the distribution in the home country.

Posten Norge AS is a Nordic postal and logistics group that aims to simplify and add value to trade and communication for people and businesses in the Nordic region. The vision is to make everyday life easier and the world smaller. The group meets the market with two brands; Posten for the Norwegian people and Bring for companies in the Nordic region.
