Ukraine and the Kingdom of Norway, guided by the Joint Declaration of Partnership and expressing a strive to intensify cooperation in a particularly important area for both countries, initiate several important energy initiatives at once. The relevant statement on strengthening Ukrainian-Norwegian cooperation in the energy sector was signed by the heads of Government of Ukraine and Norway. The document envisages, in particular, that Norway will launch a Ukrainian-Norwegian initiative on enhancing energy efficiency in public buildings, reducing energy consumption, and Ukraine creates favorable conditions for trade and investment growth, including through increasing anti-corruption measures.
The two countries are intensifying a dialogue in the context of Ukraine's aspiration to integrate into the European energy market, and are enhancing cooperation in the field of nuclear safety as well. To this end, a separate working group will be established within the Ukrainian-Norwegian Intergovernmental Commission. According to the plan, it will work on joint projects to improve the safety of nuclear power plants in Ukraine, to strengthen border control and to enhance the safety of radioactive sources aiming to prevent the transfer of radioactive substances to third parties.
A separate area of interaction is the exchange of information and experience in the management of oil resources, regulatory policy and licensing procedures. A cooperation program will be inked between the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine and the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate.
"Norway, in cooperation with partners, will support diverse business networks in the field of energy and infrastructure, so that the expansion of trade and cooperation entailed positive changes in the economy and the society. Norway will also support the introduction of new competitive models to stimulate the development of renewable energy in Ukraine", the statement of heads of Government reads.
