President Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway Ine Eriksen Søreide who is on a working visit to Ukraine.

The Head of State and the Norwegian Foreign Minister praised the launch of a major international investment project on the construction of a wind power complex in Kherson region, in which Norwegian company NBT plays a leading role.

"Two years ago, we agreed firmly with the Prime Minister of Norway and consistent friend of Ukraine Erna Solberg on a very simple formula: "Ukrainian reforms - Norwegian investments". And this project testifies to the fact that this formula works," Petro Poroshenko said.

The interlocutors noted an unprecedentedly strong Ukrainian-Norwegian partnership and readiness to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the future.

The President thanked the Government of Norway for its consistent support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The parties also discussed further steps to free Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia, in particular Oleg Sentsov, Roman Sushchenko, Volodymyr Balukh, Crimean Tatar activists, etc. "Thank you for the sanctions that firmly support Ukrainian sovereignty. I would like to urge you to make efforts and join the international campaign demanding the release of Ukrainian political prisoners who are kept in Russian prisons," the Head of State emphasized.

In turn, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway Ine Eriksen Søreide assured that the sanctions policy on Russia would be continued. "On the Norwegian side, we fully support those restrictive measures that exist on Russia... We also continue to coordinate these measures within the EU and we fully agree with these measures," she said.

The Head of State thanked Norway for its tangible assistance in overcoming the humanitarian consequences of Russian aggression in the Donbas. The President also called for considering the possibility of Norway’s patronage of one of the inhabited localities in the Donbas.

In turn, the Minister assured that her country would continue to support Ukraine in the struggle to restore sovereignty and territorial integrity, including through financial support for the reforms in Ukraine.
