The President of Ukraine together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway took part in the ceremony of international signing of the agreements on the implementation of the international investment projects for the construction of wind power plants in Kherson region with NBT Norwegian company playing a leading role in that.
"We see a deep symbolism in your investment and consider the investment of the Norwegian company on the border with Crimea as Norway's contribution to the de-occupation of Crimea," the President said and commended the launch of a major international investment project on the construction of a complex of wind power plants in southern Ukraine.
The President thanked Prime Minister of Norway Erna Solberg, the Government and the people of Norway for their consistent support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
"This event testifies to extremely effective economic relations and prospects of cooperation between our countries," Petro Poroshenko said. He emphasizes that the project increases Ukraine's energy security. According to the project, by the end of next year, 67 wind power plants with a total capacity of 250 MW will have been built along the northern shore of Syvash Lake providing electricity from renewable energy sources for over one third of consumption of Kherson region.
The President also stressed that an investment of $ 450 million was a new opportunity for Ukrainian business, and the implementation of such a powerful project would require the involvement of Ukrainian construction companies, engineering companies, companies producing construction materials as subcontractors. "And this also provides new jobs for our citizens and new tax incomes," he added.
"These 120-meter giants will be located a few meters from Syvash Lake, from the territory of the Ukrainian Crimea occupied by Russia. Investments of a Norwegian company a few kilometers from the administrative border with the occupied territory is a solid conviction that this territory will be liberated and that Crimea is Ukrainian," the President emphasized and noted that Ukraine and Norway “hold an absolutely firm and solid position on the need to support the international plan on the de-occupation of Crimea".
"It's easy to support reforms, it's easy to say that Ukraine is a successful country in terms of reforms, just say and that is all. It is very important that the support of reforms takes place in the form of investments of hundreds of millions of dollars that Norway provides," the President noted.
In turn, the Norwegian Foreign Minister assured that her country would continue to support Ukraine. "We work together and support a wide range of reforms that you carry out," Ine Eriksen Søreide emphasized and noted the growing interest of Norwegian companies in investing actively in Ukraine.
