Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Vira Rohova met with State Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Research of Norway Sindre Lysø on 24 October 2022.
During the meeting, Vira Rohova presented a brief overview of the current situation in Ukraine’s educational sphere, in particular, she told about the number of damaged schools, the reconstruction of educational institutions, preparations for winter, the number of displaced persons and the need for gadgets.
The Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine thanked Norway for its support and assistance to our country, in particular the democratization of Ukrainian education through the European Wergeland Centre’s Schools for Democracy program and the Ministry's interest in further cooperation within this program.
Vira Rohova also emphasized the importance of preserving for Ukrainian children, who are temporarily abroad, the opportunity to study the Ukrainian language, literature, and history along with studying in Norwegian schools. She drew attention to the interest in cooperation on statistics and monitoring of the situation with Ukrainian children in Norwegian schools and kindergartens.
In addition, Vira Rohova expressed interest in cooperation concerning future reintegration of children after returning to Ukraine, help with the adaptation period: support for the program of teaching Ukrainian language, literature and history; assistance in organizing admission tests, cooperation in identifying gaps and differences in curricula, cooperation in recognizing Norwegian school education in Ukraine, etc.
The Deputy Minister informed about the opportunities for Ukrainian children, who are in Norway, to study according to Ukrainian programs through the International Ukrainian School, educational hubs and the creation of separate schools. She drew attention to the need to provide psychological support to Ukrainian children and emphasized the importance of further cooperation with Norway in the field of education.
