“The Government of Ukraine welcomes the decision of the Government of Norway to start a three-year project of cooperation between Ukraine and Norway in the public health sector. This decision opens the way for a meaningful and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in new important area,” said Ambassador of Ukraine to Norway Viacheslav Yatsiuk.
The project is primarily aimed at supporting the structural reforms in the public health sector of Ukraine. “It is of particular importance for Ukraine that one of the project’s main objectives is to enable the Ukrainian health sector to provide better physical and psychological rehabilitation, which would benefit both Ukrainian wounded soldiers and affected civilians,” said the Ambassador of Ukraine. The project will also include cooperation in infection protection, as well as specific prevention and treatment programmes of various diseases.
The project will start in 2019 and its implementation will involve various actors from the Ukrainian and Norwegian health sectors and research institutions. On the Ukrainian side it will be led by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, and on the Norwegian side – the Norwegian Ministry of Health and Care Services.
Ukraine and Norway will share costs relating to the implementation of the project. “The Government of Ukraine values the decision of the Government of Norway to provide 37 million Norwegian kroner (4 million US dollars) to finance the project,” said Viacheslav Yatsiuk.
The Ukrainian Ambassador expressed gratitude to all representatives of Norwegian and Ukrainian agencies and institutions whose efforts made possible this new very important area of cooperation within the Ukrainian-Norwegian partnership.
