Resumption of direct flights between Ukraine and Norway was discussed during a meeting of the Ambassador of Ukraine to Norway Viacheslav Yatsiuk with the Chief Commercial Officer of the Norwegian Air Shuttle Thomas Ramdahl on 2 March 2017.
Ambassador Yatsiuk stressed the importance of direct flights in fostering the Ukrainian-Norwegian economic cooperation, promoting tourism, contributing to cultural exchanges, as well as encouraging people-to-people contacts in other spheres. Significant growth in cooperation between Ukraine and Norway in recent months has led to an increasing number of travelers from both sides. Positive results of internal reforms in Ukraine will further contribute to the expansion of Ukrainian-Norwegian bilateral ties, and this may serve as another important argument in support of resuming direct flights between Ukraine and Norway.
The meeting was also attended by the Managing Director of the Norwegian-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce (NUCC) Kjartan Pedersen who confirmed a strong demand for direct flights within the business communities of Ukraine and Norway.
On his part, the CCO of the Norwegian Air Shuttle agreed with the arguments in support of restoring direct air connections between Ukraine and Norway. He promised to initiate a business case for direct flights between Kyiv and Oslo. In case of its positive conclusions, in several months’ time the citizens of Ukraine and Norway will have the possibility of travelling on direct flights between their capitals.
Reestablishment of direct air connections between Ukraine and Norway was initiated by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko during his visit to Norway in October 2016.
