In the course of the official visit to Norway, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko held a meeting with President of the Storting of Norway Olemic Thommessen.
The Head of State thanked the President of the Storting and the entire Norwegian Parliament for their firm position in support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The parties discussed the security situation in Donbas, implementation of the Minsk agreements and de-occupation of Crimea. Petro Poroshenko thanked for the consistent policy of Norway regarding the non-recognition of the invasion of Crimea and supporting the preservation of sanctions against Russia until full restoration of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
The Head of State drew attention to brutal violations of human rights on the territory temporarily uncontrolled by Ukraine. "We address Norway as a country of exceptional compliance with human rights to help Ukraine stop the defiance of human rights in Donbas and Crimea by the aggressor," Petro Poroshenko said.
President of the Storting of Norway Olemic Thommessen assured of willingness to further develop active Ukraine-Norway inter parliamentary dialogue, inter Alia, through the provision of Norwegian experience in legislature.
In the course of the meeting between Petro Poroshenko and members of the Permanent Committee for Foreign and Defense Affairs of the Storting, the parties discussed the continuation of financial assistance for Ukraine to enhance defense capacity and modernize its army.
The President thanked for the active work of delegations of the Storting in PACE, OSCE and the Council of Europe aimed to supporting Ukraine and condemn Russian aggression.
