President Petro Poroshenko has submitted the draft Law "On Amendments to Several Laws of Ukraine on the Abolition of the Non-Aligned Policy of Ukraine" for consideration by Verkhovna Rada. The Head of State has noted that the given draft law should be urgently considered by the Parliament.

The purpose of the Law is to create an additional mechanism of ensuring sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine. "The non-aligned status of Ukraine that has been stipulated in the Law of Ukraine "On the Principles of the Domestic and Foreign Policy" has turned out to be inefficient in the context of defending the country from the foreign aggression and pressure. The fact that Ukraine has been located in the "gray" buffer zone between the powerful collective defense systems for a long time is an additional challenge for our country," as stated in the explanatory note to the Law.

The submission has been carried out under article 93 of the Constitution.
